University Cooperation Plan for Development 2011-2015

No one today questions that higher education, research and innovation are essential factors for the economic and social development of our society and the world. In the case of developing countries, in order to foster economic growth and social welfare, it is even more necessary to have highly qualified professionals with the capacity to innovate and to generate and adapt knowledge and technologies to their specific national context.

Strengthening the higher education institutions of the partner countries so that they are able to meet the development challenges of their countries thus becomes an indispensable condition for achieving stable and prosperous states.

The University Cooperation Plan for Development 2011-2015 (CUD Plan) represents a clear commitment on the part of Catalan universities to work together for sustainable and global human development and to promote the recognition of the role of higher education in the development. As a result of an extensive and enriching process of reflection, the CUD Plan arises from the will of Catalan public universities to equip themselves with an instrument that allows them to jointly face the current challenges of university development cooperation ( CUD). Based on the importance of higher education and research for human development, and the added value that universities provide as actors in development, the CUD Plan represents a proactive and joint response by Catalan public universities to to the future of university cooperation for the development of Catalonia.

The elaboration of the CUD Plan has been carried out within the framework of the Commission for Development Cooperation of the ACUP, coordinated by it and formed by the vice-chancellors and the people in charge of the offices and / or cooperation centers for the development of the respective Catalan public universities.
