VI Catalonia Future Conference. The Covid-19 crisis: an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda

In just a few months, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and its dire consequences, both in terms of the dramatic loss of hundreds of thousands of human lives and its devastating socio-economic impacts, have become the top priority of all countries in the world. This is a moment of great significance that will mark the destiny of the present and future generations and, as such, requires a decisive response on a global and local scale, coordinated and in solidarity.

Named the Decade of Action for Meeting the 2030 Agenda, the second decade of the 21st century began with a strong political will on the part of states to push for plans that would accelerate the full achievement of the Available Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015 by the United Nations under the motto of "leaving no one behind". And it is that a comprehensive review of the progress of the first cycle of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, found that, despite the progress made in various areas, for some of the SDGs, it had been too slow or even , a regression had occurred. All the agents of society (governments, companies, employers and trade unions, universities and research centers, the media, civil society, communities and individuals) were therefore called upon to mobilize through actions at the level of global, local and individual to respond to the great challenges of our present such as, among others, the eradication of poverty, the protection of the planet and the guarantee of the prosperity of all.

With the emergence of Covid-19, and the subsequent global twinning, health and economic crisis, the 2030 Agenda not only remains fully in place but is becoming more relevant than ever. In this regard, the United Nations published last March the report Shared Responsibility, Global Solidarity: Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 which examines how the pandemic has turned out to be a turning point that has affected , in most cases in a negative way, each and every one of the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda, and invites us to strengthen our commitment to them by conceiving them as a shared roadmap towards a more sustainable and inclusive future , essential to overcome this crisis and prepare to better face those to come.

The Covid-19 will take us to a new reality where we will have to rethink many aspects: from the need to change the relationship of people with the environment, to the importance of governance and global leadership, through the urgency to change the prevailing production and consumption models, prioritize investment in research and innovation, ensure the resilience of public health systems, or safeguard fundamental rights such as privacy in the face of the threat of mass surveillance in favor of security.

Throughout the VI Conference Catalunya Futura, entitled The crisis of the Covid-19: an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and held in the framework of the initiative Platform Knowledge, Territory and Innovation (Platform CTI), s' they will address three essential dimensions of this crisis - the ecological, the socio-economic and the knowledge -, always from the reflection, analysis and joint work of the actors and the will to create significant collaborations and alliances to face- the.
