The ACUP presents the most relevant ideas of the international seminar on MOOCs
The Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) has prepared a summary of the most relevant ideas that emerged in the international seminar 'Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) - challenges and opportunities for universities, on 26 June held in Convalescent House, Barcelona. One hundred representatives from the Catalan higher education system participated in presentations and discussion on MOOCs, the massive open online courses that follow millions of people around the world via the Internet and which are getting increasingly attention of the academic community and the media, questioning traditional ways of teaching and learning.
The seminar was attended by the President of the ACUP and the rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Ferran Sancho, the director of the eLearn Center of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), Albert Sangrà, Rebecca Petersen of edX, Jason Mock of Coursera, António Moreira Teixeira of the Open University of Portugal and representative of the European initiative open up Ed, Pedro Aranzadi, director of Universia and promoter of the Spanish platform Miríada X, Lluís Jofre, General director of Universities of the Catalan Government, Elena Valderrama of the UAB, Vanesa Daza of the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Miquel Duran of the University of Girona. The Executive Secretary of ACUP, Josep M. Vilalta, concluded the seminar.
