International Higher Education and Research Leadership Course

The 3-days Higher Education and Research Leadership Course will be offered in Barcelona from 2nd to 4th October 2017. It will be co-organized by GUNi, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS), the University of Twente, the Netherlands and the LH Martin Institute (LHMI) for Higher Education Leadership and Management at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

The course will gather participants from different higher education systems and it will focus on:

- Reflections on higher education management, policy and strategy

- Management skills development

- Understanding the particular features and challenges of leading and managing in a university environment

- Guided peer-learning, including structured experiential learning opportunities designed to tap into the rich experience of participants

The course will include sessions on trends and challenges in higher education world-wide, universities as organizations and on innovation in higher education; interviews with senior Catalonian university leaders; site visits to innovative units at universities in Barcelona; a workshop on leadership roles and organizational culture; and a higher education simulation game.

The course is designed for a maximum of 25 mid to senior level university staff – both academic and professional – with five to ten years of university management and leadership experience.
