Josep M. Vilalta
Josep M. Vilalta Verdú (Barcelona, 1965) is the Executive Secretary of the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and Director of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), formed by UNESCO and the ACUP. He holds a degree in Geography and History (UB), a Master in Public Management (UAB), a Master in Political and Social Theory (UPF) and a Postgraduate in Management Higher Education (Open University / Universiteit Twente).
Specialist in management and public policy, education policy and university management and R & D. He has been a visiting professor in public policy and management at various universities in London (Great Britain) and Twente (Netherlands) and promoter and director of the Master of Management and University Policy.
He has been Deputy Director for Research at the Generalitat of Catalonia, Head of the Evaluation, University Studies and Cooperation of the Catalan Government, promoter and coordinator of the UNESCO Chair of Higher Education Management, Head of the Strategic Planning Unit at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Executive Secretary of the International Centre for Coastal Resources Research and Management Deputy Director at the Maritime Engineering Laboratory (UPC).
He has published more than sixty papers for publications, book chapters and books on public administration, public policy, education, universities and scientific policy. He has promoted and participated in various projects and groups of experts of the Government of Catalonia, the European Commission, the OECD, UNESCO, and several countries in education and universities, political science and public policy management. He has been director of the Jaume Bofill Foundation Yearbook "Challenges of education in Catalonia" and "An agenda for transforming education in Catalonia." He is member of the group of experts of the Spanish university policy Studia XXI and is a regular contributor to the newspapers La Vanguardia, ARA, NacióDigital.
