Josep Poblet
Born in Vila-seca in 1956. Married and father of one son, graduated in Geography and History from the University of Barcelona.
He was a collaborator in different research works in the departments of Geography and Modern and Contemporary History and technical specialist in savings.
His political career began as an elected member of the Municipal Corporation of Vila-seca in 1987 until 2019.
He was mayor of Vila-seca from 1993, successively re-elected in the municipal elections of 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015; 1st vice president of the County Council of Tarragonès (1989-1991); deputy in the Provincial Council of Tarragona from 1993 to 2004; president of the Provincial Council of Tarragona from 2007 to 2019; member of the Social Council of the Rovira i Virgili University from 1999 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2019; vice-president of the Inter-municipal Consortium of the Recreational and Tourist Center (Vila-seca - Salou - Generalitat de Catalunya); member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Tarragona from 1993 to 2019 and deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia in the VII and IX Legislatures.
In relation to its socio-cultural and political activity; of the activity at the university stage -without party militancy-, it remained to have been a course delegate on several occasions, the active participation in the University Movement of Christian Students (MUEC), the March of Freedom, the fight for social and political conquests, for freedom, autonomy and against the death penalty.
He was the driving force in Vila-seca for various youth, cultural and training initiatives.
President of the Cultural Grouping of Vila-seca and Salou from 1980 to 1984 and member of the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia from 1987 to 2016. He is currently active in the Democratic Party of Catalonia, PDeCAT.
He has received several recognitions:
The Silver Medal of the Red Cross, 1989; the Gold Medal of the House of Andalusia of Tarragona and regions, 1994; the Gold Badge of Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in Vila-seca, 2000; the Golden Plow of the College of Agricultural Engineers of Catalonia, 2012; Honorary Member of the Andalusian Cultural and Folklore Association of Tarragona, 2014 and the Police Medal of the Port Authority of Tarragona, 2019.
He has been Ad Honorem professor at the Rovira i Virgili University from 2019 to 2022.
Currently, he is president of the Onada Foundation, an organization that works to overcome disability, autism and mental disorders; Member of the Training and Work Advisory Board, an organization that promotes social inclusion; patron of the CAUS Foundation, of the Health, Social and Teaching Network of Santa Tecla and President of the Social Council of the Rovira i Virgili University.
