Five Catalan public universities among the top 10 of Spanish universities
Five Catalan public universities are among the ten Spanish universities (public and private) that render more acording to the Knowledge and Development Foundation (CYD) ranking. The ranking classifies 73 of the 82 universities that exist in Spain according to the number of performance indicators that evaluate teaching, research, the transfer of knowledge, the international orientation and the contribution to the regional development. The UAB is at the top of the list. In third place there is the UPF, fifth is the University of Girona and in places 8 and 9 appear the UB and the Rovira i Virgili University.
The model uses 36 indicators like a semaphore -green for high performance, yellow for medium and red for low performance- and points each university according to five aspects: teaching, research, transfer, internationality and contribution to territorial development . For each of these sections the ranking analyses the ratio of students per teacher, practices in companies, publications or subjects in other languages. The conclusion is that there are no better and worse universities in a categorical way, but each center performs better depending on specific aspects.
